Not an issue.
Wrong S1 subset (band subset) leaded to this problem.
After correctly applying Terrain Corection (so that the product has a geolocation), the GeoTiff exported to GDAL can be opened in SNAP (using SNAP GeoTiff reader implementation) without errors.

Issue noticed only for Sentinel-1 product bands exported to GeoTIFF using GDAL.
This works ok with Sentinel-2 product bands exported to GeoTIFF using GDAL.
In the case of Sentinel-1 product bands, it seems that there are some missing metadata in the GeoTIFF written by GDAL, that prevents the results to be opened in SNAP (using SNAP GeoTIFF reader):
However, opening the GeoTIFF with GDAL GeoTIFF reader, works.
